I am a recent graduate of a very expensive private art college in California. I now owe over $130,000 in federal and private loans. I have recently moved to Florence Italy to persure my career in the arts. I have contacted my lender to find alternative payment options but I am told that I must be employeed with the U.S to consolidate. This seem to me an infration on my right to freedom, however I do understand the reasons behind this (they would not be able to garnish my wages if I did not pay) I have also akes about other repayment options and have been told that consolidation is the only way to lower payments. I am currently paying $1,500 mo and am slowlt sinking, I need to fund another way. I also do not own property therefore I would not have the option of taking out a home equity loan. I am desperate and incredibly stressed and unable to enjoy my life. Please help. any advice is appericated.
Thank you,
Sara, California
